Twenty6 share their positive-message dance pop.
Twenty6 – ‘Chin Up’
Here’s a nice story for you – the inspiration for this track came after Twenty6 met a young boy who was struggling with confidence and bullying at school. Thus, this simple yet effective ode to positivity was born, hopefully helping him and other listeners.
Twenty6 is made up of producer Alex and singer-songwriter Loren – it’s a life partnership as well as a musical one, with the pair now married. Their music has gained them gig slots and support from tastemaker radio stations.
‘Chin Up’ is a heartfelt dance-pop track with easy hooks and a positive life message that can’t help but infect you.
The lyrics would make a good set of affirmations, with lines like ‘you’ve got the world at your feet’ and ‘if they say no you can’t, you say yes I can’. There are some references to some unspecified haters too, saying ‘small things please small minds’, but generally the song serves as a catch-all positive mantra, with the titular hook ‘chin up, hold your head high’ being particularly catchy. The melodies are natural and smooth on the ears, delivered in relaxed yet warm lead vocals.
The production centres around smooth chords and garage-influenced beats. Listen out for lovely bits of melodic detail in the synths, that twinkle and flicker and cascade in melodies. Fans of 2000s dance will find this reminiscent of artists like Daniel Bedingfield and 3 of a Kind, but it’s still a track that doesn’t feel dated and would fit well in many an inspirational advert. One to add to the good vibes playlists.
