Starting his musical career on the right foot, Tommie has shown the best way to debut a song, bringing his A-game into the competitive world of Hip-hop and R&B with the single ‘Innocence’, a thoughtful work about self-accountability and introspection.
Tommie ‘Innocence’
Hailing from Gloucester, the performer simply known as Tommie had his first contact with music at the age of ten, when his sister gave him her old Bluetooth Mp3 player, exposing Tommie to the fantastic world of 90s Hip-hop. Little they knew that this event would change Tommie’s life forever in the best way possible.
Aside from the clever rhymes and verses delivered through Tommie’s smooth, silky voice, the production of this piece is an outstanding effort that deserves its own recognition, making the old school Hip-hop influence very notorious. This jammer exhibits an excellent flow driven by a head-nodding beat, layers of synths and saxophone, and especially an insightful take on human nature, as Tommie himself explains:
“The problem with putting someone on a pedestal is that it’s not sustainable. Humans are flawed and need grace. This song comes from a place of self-reflection, accountability, and humility. We have a habit of projecting our own issues and insecurities onto others. How can we trust someone to not make mistakes if we know we are making them ourselves and will probably continue to. Knowing that my closet needs rearranging, how am I supposed to believe in yours?”
Innocence is the ideal love child of traditional urban music and modern Hip-hop/R&B, a blend of styles that found a midpoint in its well-rounded production and wordplay.
Luckily for us, Tommie has assured us that this is just the beginning and there is more material on its way, in the meantime, this high-quality jam will be more than enough to keep us entertained.
