On their first release of 2023, Glasgow’s four-piece The Plastic Youth keep things fresh with a healthy dose of psychedelic and indie rock, so fasten your seatbelts for the awe-inspiring tune, Wrong Crowd.
The Plastic Youth – Wrong Crowd
Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, The Plastic Youth is a quartet that combines their deep love for 60s music with a contemporary sound, granting this collective a peculiar style that fulfils all the requirements for a highly versatile band.
In 2022, this group gained some traction thanks to the singles No Beginning and Big Thief, which received coverage by specialists such as SNACK Magazine, Generation HUSH, and Click Roll Boom, to name a few.
As far as radio airplay goes, they got championed by Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music, Simone Marie of Primal Scream on Soho Radio, and multiple spins by Vic Galloway and others across BBC Radio Scotland.
After such a wild year, The Plastic Youth has decided to write a new chapter with their track, Wrong Crowd, a song that has many remarkable assets, including being co-produced by Ross Cameron and none other than Teenage Fanclub’s Gerry Love, who has been supporting and mentoring this up and coming outfit for quite a while now.
Powered by a hypnotizing synth line and a tender vocal delivery, this track honours the band’s reputation of mixing retro vibes with a modern indie twist by adding energizing guitar passages and lively drums. Eventually, this piece develops into an unforgettable chorus that evokes nostalgia in its purest form.
“Wrong Crowd is a memorable amalgamation of classic and new indie sounds.”
This engaging melody is the most adequate way to set things up for this band’s upcoming debut album, a work that will see the day of light early next year and that also will be produced by the talented team of Cameron and Love.
