London alternative rock four-piece The Kid And I have revealed their latest offering, Fade Away, a new bop that consolidates this act as a promising force in the always challenging indie rock scene.
The Kid And I – Fade Away
From the mind of Jacob Powell comes The Kid And I, a rock group formed in 2020 that blends elements of Dream-Pop, Alternative, and Punk (among others). Their unique style and breathtaking live performances earned them a solid reputation in their native city.
After a pandemic and four exquisite singles, this project has returned with what seems to be its most divergent effort yet.
Fade Away feels a little different than the other tunes by The Kid And I so far, while Jacob has always touched on very personal topics in his lyrics, this particular track has a slight somber connotation, with the themes of anxiety, self-loathing, and isolation prevailing throughout most of it, making of this piece one of their darkest works to date.
Instrumentally speaking, TKAI have shown their wildest melody yet, there is a clear evolution and a significant change of pace dictating the tone for this tune, the hard-hitting riffs accompanied by the foot-tapping rhythm section give as a result, an adrenaline-infused jam that feels like a gloom mix between Foo Fighters and Everclear.
Fade Away is a gritty, fast-paced track highlighted by its soul-searching verses.
With each release, The Kid And I have exceeded the preconceived expectations around them. Jacob Powell knows how to translate his emotions, fears, and dreams into magnificent sonorous passages, putting this outfit in a class of their own.
You can see The Kid And I live on Saturday, June 18th, at the Future Icons Festival.
