Throughout 2024, The Chronicles of Manimal and Samara (comprised of Andrea Papi and Daphne Ang) have consistently delivered a series of powerful releases, each reflecting their diverse and evolving sound. Their ability to blend genres has kept fans eagerly guessing what they might do next. From the fusion of poetry and death metal in Mysterium Tremendum, to the progressive rock anthem Feed The Beast, the rap-metal intensity of Bite The Bullet, and the mellow reflection of It Goes, the duo’s versatility has been on full display.
Now, with Waves, the fifth single from their upcoming third album Origins, they offer an allegorical exploration of life’s unpredictability. The song captures how quickly things can shift from comfort to chaos, a theme reflected both lyrically and musically.
The first half of this seven-and-a-half-minute journey unfolds with a tranquil arrangement, enhanced by delicate electronic layers, gracefully shifting between Daphne’s captivating vocals and spoken-word poetry. Midway through, Waves shifts dramatically, bringing in distorted guitar riffs and driving drums. In the final third, the track intensifies further, with fast-paced instrumentation and melancholic guitar lines, closing with a heavy riff and raw, gritty vocals.
