Drawing inspiration from the dark times occasioned by the lockdowns, West Wales-based Sky Barkers have crafted a song with the ideal ingredient to fight against negativity… ‘LOVE’ plain and simple. ‘Give You Love’ is an ode to this beautiful and necessary emotion.
Sky Barkers – Give You Love
Sky Barkers is a genre-melting, Indie trio comprised of Jo MacGregor Messore (vocals), Dan Messore (guitar), and Matt Brown (drums). Their combined effort creates a sound defined by its multiple influences, heavily focused on songwriting and its catchy elements, in other words, irresistible and memorable melodies.
There is no denying that the last two years were very rough, and in such difficult moments, one of the most valuable emotions able to give people strength is love, both giving it and receiving it. This track is based on this crucial concept, as the band explains:
“Give You Love is a celebration and rebellion song. We wrote it during one of the lockdowns and it’s really just about loving – in the broadest sense – honestly and wildly, which in the current climate seems an act of necessary rebellion. Letting love be the force that courses through you and blasts you out of apathy, fear, whatever”.
A bouncy groovy bassline intertwines with the funky guitar and a strong drum foundation, driven by an infectious hook and Jo’s stellar vocal performance. The concise and direct lyrics do an excellent job of transmitting the endearing sentiment behind this composition.
Give You Love is a straightforward ode to love, wickedly catchy, and an absolute rush of positivity to your ears.
Sky Barkers feels like the perfect ensemble, with each member of this trio adding something unique to their music, and it’s evident in this piece. In the end, this melody conveys a great message and overall is an enjoyable experience designed to bring some bliss to your day.
