Snap, crack and pop – SAPPHIRE’s new single ‘Repeat’ has got it all.
SAPPHIRE – Repeat
Putting bad cereal puns aside, we really do genuinely love this new track. It sparks with a lively intuition that the songwriter has developed over a decade of practising her craft and listening to her favourite artists Sabrina Carpenter, Madison Beer, Johnny Orlando and Bea Miller.
Speaking about her journey so far SAPPHIRE says, “I’ve been making music for as long as I can remember, and I used to post covers on youtube which has given me some amazing opportunities over the past few years”, including the top producer behind ‘Repeat’, Roy Kerr. She figured out along the way that she could turn her habit of overthinking into songs, something that we hear in abundance in the track with literal repetition of lyrics, beats, melodies and bass lines illustrating this point.
The pop and funk directed track continues on in its marching rhythm with the 18-year-old artist’s golden vocal leading the way until we reach the dizzying spiral of an outro. Breaking out of the repeated sounds, she also shakes off those doubtful thoughts and painful memories. Making music might be a cathartic process for SAPPHIRE, but ultimately she’s making it for the listeners, like she shares “I just really hope my songs can be the soundtrack to your life in some way.”
