Hailing from a Mormon community in Hitchin, UK, Roxy Rawson is an artist with a unique life story. From her impressive musical background to the plethora of influences and cultures that inspired her sound, there is nothing ordinary about this formidable performer, and it shows in her brand new single, a cover of Kate Bush’s iconic tune Running Up That Hill.
Roxy Rawson – Running Up That Hill
Roxy Rawson’s varied musical palette is no casualty. During her teenage years, she travelled to Paris, where she studied piano and classical violin at the Conservatory of Paris. Afterwards, she gained even more experience thanks to her inclusion in the African choir.
Sadly not everything has been great in Roxy’s life, in 2012 she became severely ill with Lyme Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, this unfortunate situation forced her to go on a hiatus that lasted until 2018, a year in which she recovered and went back to work on her art once more, releasing the debut album Quenching to Kill to positive reviews from specialized media.
Her latest offering is a cover of a melody that got very popular recently thanks to Stranger Things, of course, we are referring to Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.
In all fairness, there have been a lot of covers of this classic, some of the most recognizable being the ones made by Placebo and Meg Myers (among many, MANY others), but something that Roxy managed to achieve with her newest rendition of this track, was giving it a complete makeover.
Instead of just recreating it note by note, Roxy changed the structure and the instrumentation of this piece to the point where you could listen to it without paying too much attention to the lyrics, and there is a strong chance that you wouldn’t be able to notice is the same song made famous by Kate Bush in the 80s.
The ethereal production of this composition evokes a highly atmospheric aura that goes toe to toe with the piano accompaniment and Roxy’s beautiful and uncommon vocal delivery.
Roxy Rawson’s Running Up That Hill is a brilliant artistic rendition of the beloved classic that pours with originality.
This cover represents Roxy’s inspiring return to the Indie landscape and her adaptability as a musician, growing, learning, and improving artistically. Her achievements so far are not to be taken lightly, and she definitely should feel proud of each and every single one of them.
