Quite Loud is the solo project of musician Jack Irwin-Cordner who grew up in a town dominated by sports.
Quite Loud – Past 8
His artist name refers to his two favourite things – skateboarding and playing the guitar which were ”quite loud” in comparison. ”Past 8” is a gorgeous dreamy bedroom-pop song.
“Past 8” opens with a catchy guitar loop and synths like strawberry ice cream. The perfect company to begin new adventures with, it reminds me of the rush of teenage hormones and finding a killer indie track to party with. This is exactly the kind of single I would have borrowed from the town’s music library multiple times in a row, refusing to return it until the CD came out at the record store. Then I would have purchased it as a memento because good things go past so fast. This track will please the refined spirits of any age, it has that ”something” in it.
The artist’s EPK (at one part) features the same tongue-in-cheek approach and mood as the song’s general energy – a luxury thing, only the young can afford – stating Irwin-Cordner hopes the curators will love the track as much as his mom. In context, it was sweet because I saw that as a small slice of the whole package; the narrator is a bit of an outsider, finding himself and his expression through music… and coming up with a song like ”Past 8” in the garage. I assure you, that Quite Loud’s mom has great taste.
”Cute bedroom-pop with a strong narrative, Quite Loud delivers unforgettable melodies and hooks for the refined outsiders”
