Queen Cult – It Matters To Me
Consisting of Maisie Johnson (lead vocals/guitar), Brodie Carson (drums), and Piers Jarvis (bass), Queen Cult made their triumphal post-pandemic return with the well-received EP Woman That I Know, a work that got them featured in several playlists across many platforms including Spotify’s New Music Friday UK, All New Rock, Deezer’s Girl’s Rock playlist, YouTube Music’s New Alternative, and Tidal’s Indie Britain playlist.
Always looking to represent the LGBTQ+ community, this group is part of an alternative live music scene in the UK that is organized and promoted by femme-led LBGTQ+ artists, aiming to give a voice to performers with something important to say.
Thematically, QCs new creation, It Matters To Me, embodies the well-intentioned ideology within this band’s music. Diving further into the meaning of this track, Maisie explains:
“This song was written for a friend. I wanted to understand it from her perspective and to give her a platform that would radiate with empowerment, after such distrust and pain she had endured. I wanted to show her she is not alone and how undeserving that moment was for her. I wanted her to feel heard, since she felt she had been silenced by that moment. For anyone else unheard or needing that feeling of empowerment in a moment where your femininity or dignity felt stolen. I hear you. You’re valid. It matters“
For this endearing melody, Queen Cult exhibits top-notch musicianship. Pounding drums, thumping bass, and piercing guitar riffs are the appetizer for the subtle yet provocative vocal delivery, conveying the impactful sentiment beneath this work.
“It Matters To Me is a formidable Alt-Rock banger.”
