Accurately described as a goddess of ideas with an eye for the unconventional and things that are rarely dared, Hamburg-based Puder is here to challenge the archaic social systems with her empowering lyrics and delightful sonic style. Accompanied by Joana Negrāo, her latest offering, Of Elephants And Monsters, will stir up some cages for sure.
Puder is the artistic name of Catharina Boutari, a musician, performer, and opera director from Hamburg, Germany, who gives new meaning to the term multidisciplinary artist. Aside from her many talents, she also runs her own record label Pussy Empire Recordings, and as a director, she drew a lot of attention in 2014 thanks to her theatre road movie PuderZucker.
To date, she has released six albums, two EPs, and a handful of well-received singles. All that experience combined is exhibited in her new song, Of Elephants And Monsters, a melody with blunt lyrics against discrimination, exploitation, racism, and inequality the product of the mindset of old white male and female authority figures, preventing change from happening. The cherry on top is the participation of the talented Portuguese singer Joana Negrāo.
This track really evidences the chemistry between these two artists, Joana’s soft vocal delivery serves as a comfortable contrast to Catharina’s rougher songwriting, creating a refreshing dynamic between the two, going back and forth with electronic arrangements being the appetizer for this exquisite tune.
