Offering a refreshing take on R&B, Pook Hustle’s latest delivery C.R.E.A.M. is one of his most exciting releases to date, taking his songwriting skills to the limit and also working as a reminder of the irrefutable talent of this young performer.
Pook Hustle – C.R.E.A.M.
Brooklyn-based Pook Hustle had to overcome many obstacles before getting where he is. After not receiving a scholarship to play basketball in college, he had no choice but to move back to Brooklyn and work in retail to support his family. He took this time of reflection to start making music to escape reality, and as a result, the Hustleman character was born.
This inspiring story of resilience and hard work ethic led Pook Hustle to earn the attention of significant publications such as Respect Magazine, Lyrical Lemonade, and Earmilk, among others.
Incredibly satisfied with the hook in this track, Pook collaborated with comedian and singer Angela Star for the delightful vocals.
As for the extraordinary writing and the creative process, Pook Hustle had a great time during the development of this jam, heavily influenced by many artists and styles:
“I love creative writing so on “C.R.E.A.M.”, I used visualisation to take the listener on a journey into an experience at a strip club. Growing up I was a huge fan of Daft Punk so electronic/dance-infused music has always been a part of my inspiration. Furthermore, in 2013 I was entering my freshman year of college and during my first basketball season I heard “Acid Rap” for the first time & was greatly inspired by the Chicago “juke” sound.”
The hazy production blends phenomenally well with the reverberating effects on Pook’s voice, preluding a highly infectious chorus that you won’t be able to get out of your mind, immediately followed by some hot bars in the verses flawlessly delivered. Angela’s back vocals add a spicy flavor to this dreamy and classy soundscape.
“C.R.E.A.M. is an auditive treat.”
Pook Hustle has grown artistically since his debut, demonstrating that creativity can flourish even during the hardest of times. Ultimately all that effort can be perceived in the undeniable quality of his music.
