Introducing Retriever, a three-piece from Newcastle. Their debut six-track EP (The Rattle & The Hiss) was released in March (ok so we’re a little late..) but the phrase ‘better late than never’ has never been more apt.
This is dark, scuzzy, reverb-laden guitar joy, with a cherry topping layer of screeching feedback and drum machine beats. For us, the standout track is the title track ‘Rattle & The Hiss’ which instantly leads to favourable comparisons with the first Duke Spirit album. Exciting stuff.
Since their formation in 2009, Retriever has supported The Slits, These New Puritans, Dum Dum Girls, Crocodiles and Yuck among others as well as playing the Evolution, Middlesbrough Music Live and Tramlines Festivals.
After releasing the debut single ‘Murder/Lion’ last September on Newcastle based Splash One Records 2011 has already seen the band collaborate with Berlin-based producer Headman on both his track ‘Blue Girls’ and remixes of their own track ‘Murder’.
