Blending the ethereal sounds of shoegaze and dream pop, singer-songwriter Mayzie and Oceans continue their successful collaboration with the release of their track Luminosity.
Mayzie, Oceans – Luminosity
Although both Mayzie and Oceans had established careers and numerous achievements on their own, their collaboration as Mayzie & Oceans opened up a world of possibilities, allowing them to reinvent themselves and explore exciting new creative directions.
Oceans began as a solo project for Thomas Lee, where he honed his skills. Eventually, Oceans evolved into a full band featuring talented musicians from Melbourne. Despite challenges posed by the COVID lockdowns, the band thrived, merging influences from ’90s shoegaze, ambient, new wave, and post-punk into a distinct sonic experience.
On the other side, Mayzie Lee, originally from New Zealand and now based in Melbourne, brings her solo talents to the table. Known for her dreamy indie pop and shoegaze, she writes, performs, and records all her music. Mayzie is also a visual artist, creating her own artwork, photography, and videography to complement her music.
Introduced through a mutual friend, Mayzie and Thomas quickly hit it off, and their personal connection led to a creative one. Now married, the duo has transformed into Mayzie & Oceans, a rising force in the indie music world.
Following their earlier release Mess You Up, they’ve dropped their second single Luminosity, the title track of their forthcoming album. The song delivers a surreal atmosphere, beginning with soft, dreamy guitar layers and Mayzie’s ethereal vocals. As the track progresses, it shifts into heavier, more intense sections featuring echoing harmonies, distorted guitars, and driving drums. While it offers a familiar experience for fans of the genre, it still captivates with its fresh and engaging sound.
“Luminosity is a shining example of sonic delight, showcasing the extensive experience of everyone involved and remarkably executed.”
As Mayzie & Oceans continue their tour across Europe, the UK, and Australia to promote their upcoming album, be sure to catch them live if they’re performing near you.
