Irish band MANA delivers a distinct take on a range of societal issues with their post-punk track Nauseating Me.
MANA – Nauseating Me
Made up of Greg Clifford, Shane Byrne, and Niclas Liebling, MANA is a rising Irish band now based in Berlin. Their sound fuses indie rock with post-punk, combining guitar tones reminiscent of the late ’70s and early ’80s with songwriting that reflects defiance and hope amid polarization, cynicism, and displacement.
Following the release of their debut track Our Words this past July, MANA is committed to delivering quality music with their second single, Nauseating Me. According to lyricist Greg Clifford, this composition explores a variety of contexts, as he explains:
“The song is not explicitly about any one thing, it more so alludes to themes and notions such as romanticising recalcitrance, wanderlust and liberation, while starring into the inescapable abyss of a world strung out on fake news, quotidian clickbait snares, spam, fraudulent authorities and relentless terms and conditions. Hard not to get nauseous when contending with the current state of play”.
Nauseating Me fully embraces classic post-punk instrumentation, featuring cold, fast-paced riffs that make it essential listening for fans of the sub-genre. Enhanced by soft vocals and thought-provoking lyrics, the song evokes a sense of longing and bewildered disappointment. To complement the release, the band has also launched a music video that aligns perfectly with these themes.
