After the great reception of their mind-blowing single Innocence, Liverpool’s quartet Lizard has unveiled another tease from their upcoming EP Back Again. This track is another testament to the fantastic sonic hybrid of jazz and rock that keeps captivating audiences wherever this group plays.
Lizard – Back Again
Formed in 2018, this four-piece consisting of Noah Ottman (piano, vocals), James Harvey (drums), James Weatherley-Buss (bass), and Jack O’Hanlon (guitar) met at the University of Liverpool, a place where these young musicians were studying music at the time. Shortly after its formation, this project was already performing at some of the most popular venues in their city.
Back Again is a thrill ride with the potential to become a fan favourite in live performances thanks to its fun and exciting moments.
This banger starts with an irresistible rhythmic pattern, followed by a dazzling horn section, however, this intro is just the appetizer for the funky guitar and the vocals, which combined make a beautiful homage to 70s rock and funk. Last but not least, the virtuoso guitar solo is the exclamation mark in this piece, giving an ecstatic experience to an already colourful melody.
It is also crucial to point out how just like its predecessor, Back Again stands out due to its witty lyrical showcase, and in this particular instance, the song is about a person who is literally “back again” whether it’s someone in love who can’t take a no for an answer or a weird stalker, this hypothetical person keeps coming back like the T-1000 in Terminator 2.
Filled with many memorable elements, Back Again is a perfect way to make their fans crave that EP of the same name. These two singles have managed to find a middle ground for two genres in imaginative directions. With compositions of this calibre, we are glad that Lizard is back again.
