Kédu is introducing herself to the world with her soulful debut single, ‘Heaven’s Door,’ and we feel lucky to get to know her.
Kédu – Heaven’s Door
The track, released last month, projects a calming energy, transporting listeners out of the hustle and bustle of everyday life to a place where they can relax and just be. The lush synths, dynamic bassline, and warm Rhodes chords of ‘Heaven’s Door’ pair perfectly with summer nights on the patio with good wine and better company.
Kédu, otherwise known as Jess Penson, first began her musical journey as a member of the R&B girl group Techniclr. From there, she delved into electronic music, forming one-half of the electronic performance duo, Kédu Carlö.
Her background demonstrates her status as a multifaceted artist, driven by an eclectic taste in music. She lists Amaare, Dua Saleh, Little Simz, Amber Mark, Ego Ella May, and Cleo Soul as inspirations, and that creative diversity is reflected in her sound.
Kédu draws from genres like jazz, soul, and R&B when making music, but her style also incorporates elements of synth-based sound and electronic soundscapes. Through her production, she creates a unique sonic blend that’s as fresh as it is familiar, with strong vocals that ensure listeners will keep coming back for more.
With ‘Heaven’s Door,’ Kédu proves she should be on the radar of anyone who’s a fan of neo-soul. So take a break, relax, and give yourself permission to just be content (if only for a few minutes) while you listen.
