Presenting a preview of his upcoming album, folk songwriter Jules Ahoi showcases his exceptional songwriting with the fascinating track Ålesund.
Jules Ahoi – Ålesund
Born Julian Braun and hailing from Cologne, Germany, Jules Ahoi is a multifaceted artist with an impressive track record. He boasts not only strong streaming numbers but also an extensive catalogue of songs.
Recently, Jules Ahoi has rekindled his self-confidence and returned to his DIY roots, leading him to create new music and engage in various artistic projects, such as his art printing exam and upcoming graphic design studies. With such a busy schedule, it’s clear that Jules Ahoi is not one to rest on his laurels.
Earlier this year, Jules Ahoi released the first two tracks from his upcoming album, Old Master’s House and Magnolia. These songs highlight his dedication to his craft and his heartfelt, creative approach. In a similar vein, his new track Ålesund is a captivating piece inspired by a place Jules has never visited—an enigmatic Norwegian location where the sun never sets. Despite the intriguing setting, the true essence of the song lies in its exploration of the journey of two travellers venturing into the unknown, capturing a yearning for the unfamiliar and the expectation of a night that never arrives.
As Jules Ahoi further explains:
“You would assume that Ålesund is a place I’ve been to before and therefore associate with something. But it’s not. I was in Norway, and we wanted to go to Ålesund, but it’s so incredibly far that we didn’t end up going there at all.”
With a slow tempo, soulful backing vocals, and meticulous beats, Ålesund features Jules’ calm and nearly stoic vocal delivery. The immediate presence of the acoustic guitar creates a deep, melancholic vibe that accurately conveys the aforementioned longing for the unknown. As the track progresses, the addition of the cello brings the song to a new emotional peak. Despite these elements, the track doesn’t feel entirely sorrowful; rather, it maintains a hopeful atmosphere throughout, which you need to experience to fully appreciate.
Ålesund is a beautifully produced composition that is both thematically intricate and deeply heartfelt, offering a soulful journey that you can experience from the comfort of your home.
This track is part of Jules Ahoi’s upcoming album, MAGNOLIA (The Bauhaus Tapes), set for release on September 6th. Additionally, Jules will embark on his Magnolia Tour 24 this fall to promote the record across Germany.
