Josh Urich unveils his Californian indie style with lead single ‘Hypocrite’ and full-length album ‘I Wonder If They Like Me’.
Josh Urich – I Wonder If They Like Me
Josh Urich is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter hailing from the sunny state of California, United States. Blending indie pop, surf rock, jazz, and funky grooves, he recently released ‘I Wonder If They Like Me’, his debut album.
Anchored in the appeal of the lead single ‘Hypocrite’, ‘I Wonder If They Like Me’ delivers a sonically diverse yet cohesive set of songs, drenched in Urich’s personal, self-confessed lyricism.
The record opens with the brief 20-second snippet ‘Diving In’ which paves the way for the aforementioned “Hypocrite”, a soaring, energic indie rocker with galvanising vocals and guitar work.
Powered by abrasive guitars, a walloping rhythm and Urich’s bright, warm-sounding vocals, ‘Hipocrite’ brims with pure indie electricity, peaking during the strong sing-along chorus parts. And despite its straightforward structure, there’s no denying the single’s drawing power.
“Hypocrite is a strong indie rock number, packed with energy and magnetism.”
We are then treated to ‘Addicted’ and ‘Fallin’, which play out with similar exuberance and keep the rock antics rolling, while the infectious ‘Tracks (reprise)’ leans more towards pop textures.
Elsewhere, we are also treated to the evocative ballad ‘Pass Me By’ and the retro-flavoured, funk-laden number ‘Cure My Memory’.
‘I Wonder If They Like Me’ is a solid debut album which showcases Urich’s promising songwriting skills, especially on the magnetic lead single ‘Hypocrite’. Expect to hear more from this young Californian and his sun-filled, feel-good brand of indie.
