Introducing Jessie Monk
From GunaiKurnai land in Australia, Jessie Monk is a folk musician, who finds inspiration in the people she meets, the stories she hears, and the thresholds she walks through. Jessie is not only a folk musician, but also a dancer and actor, having performed in major musicals across Australia, including David Bowie’s Lazarus. In 2019, she toured Israel, before relocating to Berlin in 2020, where she’s been amazed by the incredibly warm welcome she’s received to the city’s thriving folk scene.
Maybe In Another Life
Jessie’s newest single Maybe In Another Life is a wonderful mash-up of 1970’s and modern day sounds, accompanied by a music video that transports you to a freer, and more tranquil era. The earthy, upbeat track radiates playfulness, serenity, and easiness. Monk draws influence for the track from artists such as Joni Mitchell and Neil Young, however Maybe In Another Life entirely has its own, unique sound; one that makes you wish you could hop right into the music video and dance along with them.
The track’s lyrics tell the time old tale of unrequited love; of loving someone who, for whatever reason, is simply not available to you. The lyrics are heartfelt, emotive and undoubtedly relatable to many, and as she sings them, Jessie’s voice is smooth, captivating, and honey-like.
