On the soundtrack for the new film ‘The Exorcists’, ‘Under Your Skin’, by Jennalyn, is a thrilling and haunting urban pop piece.
Born in Seattle, Washington, and based in Los Angeles since she was 17, Jennalyn started singing in church at the age of four. She was featured by Right Chord Music in 2016 in our First Signs of Love column for her single “Waiting” ) and again in 2021 for her debut EP Blade. Her new single ‘Under Your Skin’ features in the end credits for the new movie “The Exorcists” in cinemas and on streaming from 29 September.
The single’s stripped-down piano melody combined with Jennalyn’s impressive dramatic vocals, sit alongside a moody urban beat, which works well to establish the required sombre atmosphere.
The lyrics talk about some misdemeanour the singer undertook with her listener at some point and whose memory still inhabits her mind, robbing her of her inner peace. Still, it seems she is the only one expressing repentance and, moreover, she was apparently seduced and misled.
She confronts this person, with consternation, trying to stir some regret in them. And yet you can still sense the somewhat begrudging enjoyment as she howls the line “The way that you talk/It taught me to sin”. She is clearly still very much plagued by contradictory feelings.
Apart from lending her enticing vocals to the soundtrack, Jennalyn will also be acting in the film as a psychic who accidentally gets involved in the exorcism along with a group of friends, look out for her in the trailer below.
