The retro, space funk of Iraina Mancini’s new single ‘What You Doin’ will leave you in a giddy spin.
Iraina Mancini – What You Doin’
Featuring Miles Kane Guitar on guitar and Kitty Liv (Kitty, Daisy Lewis) on Harmonica, ‘What You Doin’ by Iraina Mancini fizzes with an infectious blend of retro-infused space funk from the very first note.
Iraina Mancini has established her identity around a retro aesthetic, and while this continues in the gloriously styled video, there is something about this record that sounds equally futuristic. Imagine somewhere between Goldfrapp’s Strict Machine and Queen’s of The Stone Age’s The Way You Used To and you might just arrive at Iraina Mancini’s ‘What You Doin’.
This is one of those records you play on repeat and still don’t ever get bored, we recommend you add it to your next playlist. Your friends will immediately be asking ‘What is that!’ This is just one of those cut-through records that grabs your attention.
Iraina explains the inspiration behind ‘What You Doin’…
“I wrote about someone not being able to see what’s right in front of them, and If they don’t act soon, then you’re not waiting around! It’s got a lot of attitude and confidence. I love the live feel the song has, it was great to have Miles Kane (guitar) and Kitty Liv (harmonica) come down to the studio to jam on the track. Their parts added an extra sprinkle of magic to the song.”
‘What You Doin’ is Iraina Mancini’s second single to be released via Needle Mythology, the new indie label founded by music writer, author and broadcaster Pete Paphides.
“Quite simply, there’s a bunch of records I really want to have in my collection. And the only way for that to happen is to press them up and give them the release they always deserved.” Pete Paphides
‘What You Doin’ is the follow-up to BBC 6Music playlisted track ‘Cannonball’. In fact, Iraina’s last 5 records have all ended up on BBC 6Music and if I was a betting man, I would put my house on that run continuing.
Undo The Blue
Looking beyond the single, Iraina will be releasing her eagerly awaited debut album ‘Undo The Blue’ via Needle Mythology on the 18th of August. It’s available for pre-order now via selected outlets.
Iraina has written all the tracks on the album along with regular collaborators Simon Dine (Paul Weller) Jagz Kooner (David Holmes, Oasis, Shakespear’s Sister) and Sunglasses For Jaws (Miles Kane), who have all produced the record along with additional production from Erol Alkan (The Killers, Duran Duran, Ride).
In support of the album release, Iraina Mancini will be performing a special one-off live show with her band at The Lexington on the 13th of July. Tickets here.
