With his third release of the year, singer-songwriter grapevine. is inspired by a conversation with a friend, which soon took on personal meanings.
grapevine – ‘Bad Idea’
Emerging from the North-East music scene, Will Clucas, known by his stage name grapevine., made his debut in late 2023 with Swim For My Life. The track quickly gained momentum, amassing over 10,000 streams and counting.
His music has earned airplay on BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, In Your Ears Radio, and Spark Sunderland. It has also garnered recognition from music outlets, including The Crack Magazine, which named his track Track of the Week, along with favourable reviews in NARC Magazine and Get Some Magazine.
Following his well-received singles Cross Your Mind and Like an Oasis, grapevine. keeps his creative energy alive with Bad Idea. The song offers a deeper look at romantic entanglements, illustrating a couple caught in a situation that’s quickly spiralling out of control. The lyrics reflect a looming sense of dread as if something bad is bound to happen once things start escalating.
The inspiration behind Bad Idea comes from a real-life moment with a friend, as grapevine. himself explains:
“The song came about after a conversation I was having with a few of my mates where one of them was doing too much for a girl who wasn’t into him in the same way and so he needed an intervention some of the lyrics were lifted straight from that conversation. The more I’ve sat with this track however I’ve been able to relate it more and more to my own experiences and from there it sort of took on a life of its own. With all this considered, it ironically became a ‘bad idea’ for me not to release it”.
On the production side, Bad Idea delivers an irresistible mix of synths and clapping beats that keep your feet moving. The song’s infectious rhythm, mesmerizing chorus, and echoing vocal effects make it one of the most enjoyable listens you’ll come across this week.
“Bad Idea is a brilliantly vibrant alternative track, blending catchy hooks with dynamic, colourful production.”
In a short time, grapevine. has already made significant strides, and this new single further solidifies that his creative instincts are spot on. The only “bad idea” here would be not following this exciting artist’s journey.
