Bringing some of the best that Polish rock can offer, five-piece Indie rockers Giss have released their new LP named simply II. This record is the result of a long process of artistic evolution and years of hard work.
Giss – II
Giss consist of Jakub Goleniewski (vocals/guitar/production), Jan Romaniszyn (guitar/keys/bass), Filip Czerwiński (bass/-synthesizer), Dawid Piątkowski (drums), and Witek Pawelec (guitar) Giss have built a strong reputation receiving support from Fresh Finds and gathering over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
After a series of successful singles and a mini album called Drop (2019), Giss has taken the next step and released II, a collection of 10 tracks that reflect their journey.
This record is an attention grabber from the first second, proof of this is the opener, Morning Battle, where musicianship is the main focus, barely using lyrics and letting the mesmerizing instrumentation speak for itself, with its hypnotic bassline and enticing guitar work sucking you into this world like a spiral.
But Giss aren’t afraid to change things up radically. Track two Airball showcases a chill sound heavily influenced by Bossa Nova. While Better Call Paul is characterised by warm and sunny arrangements, reminiscent of early Vampire Weekend. She Looks Like A Dog is a hooky pop composition, enticing you with almost hypnotic bass and cleverly written lyrics.
Never marrying to any particular style or genre, Look Out exemplifies the creativity on this record by brimming with diversity, presenting acoustic segments beautifully adorned with electronic effects, mimicking an outer-space atmosphere.
Jakub’s mellow vocal style finds in Kaleidoscope the perfect spotlight to display all his potential, exalting the smooth guitar chords in this piece.
Breath on Me and Waiting for an Audience fall into a more ambient vein, taking the listener into a dreamlike soundscape that feels like an out-of-body experience.
Sauer Brenner takes the cake as far as being the most danceable track in this LP. Its catchy verses, funky guitar, and foot-tapping rhythm section build into a heavenly chorus, creating a cool dynamic between the two.
Finally, I Need Love finishes this fantastic sonorous adventure with its steady drumming and colourful synthesizers, fitting like a glove with the emotional delivery in the vocals.
“II is a mix of over-the-top musical eclecticism, with enough memorable moments to keep fans engaged throughout”
For this musical work, this Poland-based act blended flawlessly different elements into a solid offering that never drags or feels boring. Take a listen for yourself.
