Gemma Rogers offers a sneak peek into her upcoming EP with the release of her mesmerizing new song, D K U (Death Knocked Up).
Gemma Rogers – DKU (Death Knocked Up)
Since her debut album in 2022, Gemma Rogers has garnered significant acclaim from notable platforms such as BBC 6 Music, Clash Music, Louder Than War, and Steve Lamacq, who named her debut LP one of his top ten records of the year. Her experience as a performer has also seen her grace stages at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, and support Paolo Nutini at Brighton’s Stanmer Park.
With the distinctive motto “life’s too short for being boring,” Gemma’s new track, D K U (Death Knocked Up) brings a unique theme. Inspired by the novel Mrs Death Misses Death by her friend and poet Salena Godden, this song explores the intriguing idea of what it would be like if Death were a sentient being. The melody poses thought-provoking questions about Death experiencing everyday struggles, holding a job, and even the possibility of giving birth.
While the premise is undeniably interesting, the true essence of this melody lies in its exceptional musicianship. Blending insane catchiness with diverse arrangements, D K U showcases Gemma’s assertive vocal delivery alongside hypnotic instrumentation. With a striking guitar hook, an irresistible bassline, and refreshing backing vocals, this composition will have you humming its infectious chorus for days.
“D K U is a remarkable musical piece that highlights Gemma Rogers’ witty songwriting skills”
D K U is the second single from Gemma Rogers’ forthcoming EP No Future, scheduled for release on September 20th, both on streaming services and vinyl. Given the quality of Gemma’s previous releases, this is a record you’ll definitely want to keep on your radar!
