Hailing from London, Fresh Dixie are one of the UK’s most exciting up and coming cross- over jazz acts. Their unique sound fuses elements of jazz, pop and soul which, coupled with their seriously impressive musicianship and electrifying improvised solos, forges a live show that is rapidly gaining a strong reputation for its energy and infectiousness. The boys met at University and after getting tired of playing jazz standards, decided to start writing original material. At this point they began to draw on the incredibly diverse musical tastes and influences within the band and realised their full crossover potential.
After building a local following that has expanded throughout the UK and into parts of Europe, the band have played a string of prestigious festivals and venues including Elbjazz Festival (Hamburg, Germany), Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, WOMAD Festival, PIJF (Malaysia) and Manchester and Cheltenham Jazz Festivals. More recently they have played sell-out headline shows at The Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room and Soho’s Pizza Express Jazz Club. Lately, the band have been writing and recording new music with the help of producer Geoff Gascoyne (Jamie Cullum/Paloma Faith) alongside recording a series of live video sessions at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios.
Fresh Dixie have a dynamic debut EP due for release early next year of which their opening gambit is a beautifully plaintive yet seductive rendition of MGMT’s super smash ‘Electric Feel‘, which demonstrates on smallest of scales an insight into the power these young talented friends and musicians have to offer.
