Famoe’s rap take on a ‘Masterpiece’

Famoe Masterpiece

Famoe is not letting himself rest, releasing two statement singles in quick succession.

Famoe – Masterpiece

Famoe is a rapper with links to the UK, Italy and Germany, and a career that started in the early 2000s.

‘Masterpiece’ is a collaboration with J-Rock and Randy from the classic early-2000s group Big Brovaz – seeing their names took me on a pleasant trip down memory lane, and Youtube. They had a fresh sound for the time, and some great songs, and perhaps deserved a higher level of success, but they’re clearly still making music and collaborating – as shown here.

“Masterpiece is an epic rap anthem with that classic rap attitude of rising up, defeating all odds, and conquering your enemies.”

Famoe delivers another singalong chorus, showing his dedication to his music with the image of himself ‘in the booth locked up’ and gleefully calling this collaboration his ‘plug to blow up’. The verses of Famoe, J-Rock and Randy contrast nicely in their flows, but all full of heavyweight bravado. There are some tricky lines to spit – ‘spit scorchers that’ll spin thoughts round like flying saucers’ and plenty of love shown for Brixton and the area ‘south of the water’. Beneath the attitude there are hints at harder beginnings, referring to themselves as ‘the same scum you left in the slums back again’. (Though I could do without the tired misogyny of dismissing women as hoes and bitches.)

The production combines quavering organ chords, in-your-face bass and stomping beats, giving it an epic stadium pre-fight feel reminiscent of the early 2000s. It’s a great groove that lets the rap flow over it. He certainly proves he’s a hard worker – let’s see if he can achieve his ‘new world order’.
