Influenced by 70s greats such as Carole King, Carly Simon, and Joni Mitchell, UK solo-artist Elizabeth Liddle breaths passionate and intricate songwriting through and through.
Elizabeth Liddle – What I Wouldn’t Do
Mesmerising listeners with her heartfelt, piano-based sound led by “crystal-clear vocals” (HMV), her retro-pop style has earned her festival slots alongside Jake Bugg and Stereophonics. Releasing debut EP, “Somewhere” last year – a work dubbed a “a subtle affair that captures something special and shouldn’t be missed” – the musician is delighted to present her third offering of 2023. A gorgeous blend of orchestral pop, the single is an old-fashioned ode to personal growth.
Branded as a ‘name for the future’ by BBC Newcastle, it’s no surprise that the new track is another testament to this title. Exploring personal insecurities and acceptance, the singer’s candid approach draws you in from the first second. Built with comforting, delicate chord structures that are lifted by dashes of country and soul styles, the artist effortlessly dapples into a range of genres. The music, lyrics and vocal deliverance each hold their own insights, leaving you charmed and fulfilled after each listen. Fans of early Taylor Swift and Shania Twain will be warmly drawn to Liddle’s expressive character and truly radiant vocals, which have only grown stronger since debut single, “Blind To Love”.
A poignant piece of work that seeks personal romance, “What I Wouldn’t Do” is the hand on our shoulder that tells us to be nicer to ourselves. Liddle continues to speak for her listeners when they can’t find the words, and she has become the big sister, favourite aunt and best friend that some of us have never had. Gleaming with desire, self-cultivation and gratitude, the single is a beautiful track to guide us into a blissful Autumn season.
“Elizabeth Liddle is quite the colourful artist – navigating the chic and the glam, the delicate and the passionate, the commanding and the humble: She simply shines far and bright. A true spirit of soul-pop”.
