Courts from Basildon are a worthy choice for our band of the week, and seeing as you can get their EP No Knowledge No Heart for FREE, there should be no excuse as to why you aren’t listening to them! The EP provides something for everyone, Roll For The Sun (a former Amazing Radio record of the week) fuses RHCP bass with Hard-Fi lyrical directness, while Madhatter is an all together more chilled and mellow affair. Imagine Bill Withers jamming with Fun Lovin Criminals. ‘Long Wait Long List’ picks up the pace and is reminiscent of first album Foals.

There is enough variety within this 6 track offering to keep you engaged and wanting more. Courts clearly draw inspiration from a wide musical palette and their fusion of math-rock, funk, pop and hip hop, twanged with an Essex accent always manages to sound both innovative and fresh. It is easy to see why they have garnered support from BBC Introducing and Tom Robinson’s shows on BBC 6 Music.
Courts are currently playing gigs up and down the country to get their music out to the wider audience it deserves. They plan to release a new single before the summer and are currently writing their next EP with 4 tracks already finished and demoed. The guys recently performed Roll For The Sun Part II for The Mahogany Blog, which you can check out below. You can also download their EP No Knowledge No Heart absolutely free from this link, and be sure to check out the RCM interview with Courts this Wednesday.
