Edinburgh-based post-punk quartet Alba Fury makes their official debut with Out of Time, a haunting track that explores themes of mortality and impermanence.

Alba Fury is an exciting new indie/post-punk band from Edinburgh, made up of Michael Ward (lead vocals), Sam Greig (guitar), Jamie Thomson (bass and backing vocals), and Fraser Plumb (drums). The band’s journey began in early 2023, when former West Lothian bandmates Jamie Thomson and Michael Ward teamed up to work on some demo ideas.
Alba Fury, like many post-punk bands, takes inspiration from a mix of iconic and modern acts within the genre. Their influences include the powerful sounds of Fontaines DC, Sprints, Young Fathers, and, undeniably, the legendary Joy Division.
Alba Fury is taking their first bold step in their musical journey with the release of their debut track, Out of Time. True to their DIY spirit, the song was primarily produced by the band themselves. It was recorded in Aberdeen with the help of Billboard-charting producer Ryan (RYZY) MacKay, who skillfully tracked the drums and bass. The guitar and vocals were then recorded in Edinburgh by the band, with mixing and production overseen by bassist and songwriter-producer Jamie Thomson. Finally, the track was mastered by Phillip Marsden in Oxford, ensuring a polished finish.
According to Jamie Thomson, Out of Time delves into the harsh reality of mortality, confronting the fact that our time in life is finite, leaving us with little choice but to accept it. The song explores themes of impermanence and the conflicting emotions that arise from it, while also seeking to connect with listeners who grapple with similar feelings about making the most of their limited time.
In true post-punk style, Out of Time sets a gloomy atmosphere from the moment you press play. With its hypnotic rhythm section, sombre guitar riffs, and intense vocal delivery, accentuated by a thick Scottish accent, the track creates a cold, bleak ambience—perfect for a winter night spent staring at the moon.
Out of Time is a masterfully crafted post-punk track, creating a dark and atmospheric soundscape that delves into the universal vulnerability of human existence.
Alba Fury has undoubtedly delivered a powerful debut, and as if that weren’t impressive enough, the band is set to work tirelessly over the coming months to share their captivating sound with audiences across Scotland and beyond.
