In his latest collaborative track, Love, DanFromUpstairs offers a fresh perspective on the complexities of love, merging pop-rock with a unique twist.
DanFromUpstairs – Love
Based in Brighton, DanFromUpstairs is the creative alias of Daniel O’Brien, a talented musician and producer known for his genre-defying sound and top-tier production. With thousands of streams to his credit—particularly for his track Homestay Hero, which has garnered over 30,000 plays—he has solidified his reputation as a respected figure in the UK’s independent music scene.
At first glance, the title of his new track, Love, might suggest a typical love song, but that assumption would be misleading. DanFromUpstairs delivers a cynical monologue from the perspective of someone who rejects the idea of love, considering it an illogical and frivolous emotion. Yet, beneath the surface, the speaker’s words reveal a deep-seated bitterness and jaded outlook on relationships.
Teaming up again with long-time collaborator Luke Matthews, Love showcases DanFromUpstairs’ production expertise, weaving together a vibrant mix of rich textures. The track features an infectious hook, foot-tapping rhythms, and captivating guitar work, all complemented by harmonious backing vocals and cleverly bittersweet lyrics. Accompanying the release, the official music video adds an extra layer to the theme with its distinct sense of humour, further highlighting the song’s message.
“Love offers a captivating take on the emotion, elevated by its impeccable production and thoughtfully crafted arrangements.”
Love is the second of three singles leading up to DanFromUpstairs’ highly anticipated debut album, Hopeless Fables. This ambitious project promises to explore a wide range of genres while tackling profound themes of love, life, and death. With such an intriguing concept, the excitement for this album continues to build.
