We’re back after a two week break, that provided the perfect excuse to work through the RCM inbox listening to a ton of incredible new music. Kicking things back off is The Great American Canyon Band, husband and wife duo Paul and Krystal Jean Masson.
GACB have spent the past few years traveling the vast expanse of North America. From a barn in Athens to a warehouse in Los Angeles searching for their concept of home. Eventually they ended up in an abandoned house just outside downtown Chicago, without running water or consistent electricity they kept themselves going by writing songs for each other without intention of being more than a way to pass a cold evening. After sending their music to a handful of people and receiving warm responses from influential music blogs including Stereogum and Daytrotter they returned home to Baltimore to release an EP called ‘Lost At Sea.’

GABC make intelligent widescreen shoegazey folk. This is music that transports you to a road trip, where fresh mountain air rushes around you head invigorating your soul. Title track ‘Lost At Sea’ consumes you with a glorious monotony, perfectly conveying feelings of loss, hope and movement. ‘Tumbleweed’ builds to an ethereal crescendo of handclaps and sublime woozy vocals. ‘Lay My Body Down’ offers country tinged folk, with their vocals perfectly and beautifully entwined. ‘Wild Heart’ brings the EP to a stunning close “You’re the only one that can tame my wild heart.” Lovely stuff indeed.
